Jain Fafda–Jalebi Recipe
Crispy, Sweet, Traditional — With a Jain Bliss Twist!
Fafda–Jalebi is a Sunday tradition, a festive must-have, and the ultimate Gujarati comfort combo.
Crunchy fafda, hot jalebi, raw papaya sambharo, and fried chili — all without onion, garlic, or potato.
This version is 100% Jain-friendly, and made even better with a light enhancement of Jain Bliss Chili Flakes / Oregano / Tomato Powder in the sambharo & fafda seasoning.

Ingredients You’ll Need
For Fafda

1 cup gram flour (besan)

1 tbsp oil

¼ tsp turmeric

½ tsp carom seeds (ajwain)

Salt to taste

A pinch of baking soda

For Jalebi (Instant Version)

1 cup maida

2 tbsp cornflour

Sugar Syrup

1 cup sugar
-
½ cup water
-
¼ tsp cardamom powder

A few saffron strands

½ tsp lemon juice
For Jain Papaya Sambharo

1 cup grated raw papaya
-
1–2 green chilies, slit
-
1 tbsp oil
-
½ tsp mustard seeds
-
½ tsp turmeric
-
Salt to taste

1 tsp sugar
-
½ tsp Jain Bliss Oregano (for aroma — perfect match)

½ tsp Jain Bliss Tomato Powder (adds mild tang & beautiful colour)
Step-by-Step Instructions
PART 1: Making Fafda
Step 1: Prepare the Dough

Mix besan, ajwain, turmeric, salt, and a pinch of baking soda.

Add oil and rub it into the flour.

Add water gradually to make a firm, smooth dough.
Optional: Knead in a pinch of Jain Bliss Chili Flakes for subtle flavour.
Step 2: Shape the Fafda

Take a small dough ball.

Press it on a greased surface and stretch forward using your palm to make thin strips.
Step 3: Fry

Heat oil on medium flame.

Fry fafda until crisp and golden.

PART 2: Making Jalebi
Step 1: Batter
Mix maida, cornflour, turmeric, curd (optional), and baking powder.
Add water to make a flowing consistency.
Rest for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Sugar Syrup

Boil sugar + water until sticky (1-string).

Add cardamom + saffron + lemon (prevents crystallization).
Step 3: Fry Jalebis

Fill the batter in a squeeze bottle.

Pipe jalebi spirals into hot oil/ghee.

PART 3: Jain Papaya Sambharo
Step 1: Tempering
Heat oil → add mustard seeds → chilies → turmeric.
